Transit Police Insignia - Uniform Patches
The first known uniform patches were first worn with the creation of the SCRTD Transit Public Safety Department in 1976.  Later versions
would also include badge patches for use on the uniform jackets and specialty uniforms.  There have been several variations of patches, both
shoulder patches and badge patches between then and now.

Security Guards wore.

Approximately 1980-1989
In 1980 the Department transitioned to being a transit police department and the uniforms were changed to city police navy blues instead.
With this change came a new patch design.  Original Patches were twill patches with the design embroidered.  Later versions were
fully-embroidered (approximately 1984 for the 1984 Olympics).  Separate patches for Transit Police and Transit Security.

In 1988, two SCRTD transit police officers were involved in a high profile arrest of a drug dealer in downtown Los Angeles.  With monies the
Department received from asset forfeiture, as a reward, Chief Burgess sought a more modern design badge for the transit police officers and
new shoulder patches for the transit police officers and security guards.  These newer designs reflect that change.
